Let’s get this out of the way. Crowded Barrel’s tasting room is closing again for everything but bottle pickups. You know the drill. We’ll give an update when the latest round of covid restrictions are lifted - again.
I caught up with Rex and Brianna (Bucket Girl) emptying a small fermentation tank for an upcoming episode of, Will It Distill. This time it’s durian fruit, aka corpse fruit. The raw fruit tastes better than it smells, which isn’t saying much. It’s weird, like something went horribly wrong, but John assures me - that’s just durian fruit.
There’s potential lingering in the pungent fog, but the distillation process has to deliver some clutch moves if the resulting durian booze is going to be tasty.
Daniel just sent a message: “You can credit the tribe for drinking through roughly 50 barrels of our whiskey in 2020 and 2019.”
Not bad for a little barrel house and a tiny still. The new / bigger / better barrel house is now organized, with ever growing piles of aging whiskey. And your new still is being assembled and prepared for shipping as I type this.
Oh yah. And it snowed last week. I’m not talking about a little sprinkle of frost either. Our corner of Texas got Honest-To-God REAL SNOW. The engine block sized snow-boulder that the neighborhood kids left on my driveway is a testament to the bigness of this deal.
I’ll take it as a good omen. Change is in the air.
