It's whiskey weather in Texas. Cold enough for neat pours to be my obvious choice, but mild enough to still enjoy a few hours outside. An old friend invited me to the coast this weekend. We go back far enough to remember our first bus ride to elementary school - and fist fights, and summer camp, and first kisses, and high-drama at the neighborhood pool.

It’s whiskey weather in Texas.

The pace of our adventures may have slowed, but a precedent of good times has been established - and my tank is still full enough to do some damage.

This trip needs bourbon, but beyond that my responsibility is unclear.

  • Do we need a hero-bottle worth exploring?
  • Something recognizable?
  • Should the whiskey just take a backseat to the shenanigans?
  • Am I expected to pull back the curtain on a brave new world of sippin’?

As the designated whiskey guy, I often overthink the bottle selection. But this responsibility is too great to just cross your fingers and plop a couple of bottles in a backpack.

I try not to rest on my laurels. But there’s a reputation to consider for this weekend outing. After all, I am the legendary water-balloon-sniper whose story was still being told long after my scholastic departure.

There’s only one thing to do…

Bring everything.
