The new still is built. We’re bottling something almost daily. Crowded Barrel has more visitors than ever. The first run of Silly Goose is going to sell out. We’re searching for and hiring new team members. There’s well over 100+ barrels of our whiskey aging right now.
Have you ever revved up an engine in 1st gear? You burn a lot of energy and make plenty of noise, but you don’t get very far.
It feels like we just hit 2nd gear.
The new still is built.
We’re bottling something almost daily.
Crowded Barrel has more visitors than ever.
The first run of Silly Goose is going to sell out.
We’re searching for and hiring new team members.

That’s all great stuff. But I feel a “blur” coming on.
You know what I mean. Having several months of your life flash by in a frantic haze of activity and routine. It’s concerning. Too much busyness, not enough presence.
I don’t think I’m old yet, but I’m far from young. And there’s not too many blurry flashes left before I’m puttering around with ancient retirees. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be an amazing old man someday. A fully credentialed Crusty Old Bastard Extraordinaire.
But I’d like to slow down enough to savor and collect a few present moments along the way.
After all, one of the biggest responsibilities of a Crusty-Old-Bastard-in-training is to collect memorable experiences and shenanigans. I’ll know I did it right if the next generation hears our story and says, “Man... those were the days.”
To the next gear, and a life well lived.
