Big day at the crowded barrel, you magnificent bastards, and I'm here to give you the inside scoop. What you are about to read is known to only six people as of this writing. And I get to break the news to you.
You'll remember that Meridian Hive donated the mead that Emma is currently running distillation experiments with. And hey, if someone gives you some free mead to play with, you invite them over to taste the product, am I right? So Mike and Cayce from Meridian Hive dropped by to taste the newmake mead spirit with Daniel and Emma. I got to sit in on the conversation.
Mike is a complete honey and mead nerd. I'm talking Daniel level nerdery. We learned about all sorts of interesting honey varietals, including one that tastes like cotton candy and toasted marshmallows. It was fascinating listening to Mike and Daniel talking 100mph about chemistry shit. And we drank. The newmake mead spirit to start, then some mead they brought with them to share, and whiskey of course.
And then it happened. I don't know who brought it up, but someone said, "Hey, this stuff is really good. And no one else is distilling mead. Maybe.....you guys might end up partnering with us and making this a thing?"
Their response was long and thoughtful, but I can sum it up this way. "Hell yes we can. Let's make this work."
One week ago I was feeling a little guilty telling you about tasting the mead spirit with Emma because I thought you might not be able to try this stuff. But now this may actually become a thing. Which means that someday in the not-too-distant future, you and I could be drinking this stuff at the Crowded Barrel on a Friday night.
I'll be there for sure. I hope you'll join me.
