"If you don't, when you try to pound it into the bunghole it will bounce out and hit you in the face every time." I looked at him. He looked at me. "How did you manage to say that with a straight face?" "I don't know. That's the first time I've ever said that out loud." Okay then.
It's been a slow week here at the distillery. Daniel took a few days off. So did Emma. On Wednesday I wandered over to the Barrel house to see what was up. I found John in the back driving a bung into a barrel.
Ooh, I've always wanted to do that. John handed me the mallet and I got after it. I pounded the shit out of that thing. But the bung would not go in the hole. It kept popping back out.
John offered sage words of wisdom. "You gotta lubricate the bung. If you don't, when you try to pound it into the bunghole it will bounce out and hit you in the face every time."
I looked at him. He looked at me.
"How did you manage to say that with a straight face?"
"I don't know. That's the first time I've ever said that out loud."
Okay then.
Fun fact. You lubricate the bung with whiskey. Of course. I poured some on the bung and BOOM. Right in the hole. And brother, it is satisfying as HELL to drive a bung into a bunghole. I recommend it if you ever get the chance.
