I took a closer look at the bottle. "The Apology Gin." The label had a lovely woman on it that reminded me of an elf in The Lord of the Rings. "We're making gin now?" And then he settled in to tell me the story. Daniel tells a good story, which is a blessing since he likes telling them.
Daniel walked in on Wednesday and sat a bottle on the table.
"I'm sorry."
"What for?"
"I'm sorry it's not whiskey."

"We're making gin now?"
And then he settled in to tell me the story. Daniel tells a good story, which is a blessing since he likes telling them.
"We wanted to make our own gin for the tasting room. For cocktails. Making gin is easy; making consistent gin is very much NOT easy. We could do it, but we like to put our energy into whiskey. So I contacted MGP. Turns out they make 7-8 different kinds of gin. I bought one of each and started blending them together. Now if you think about it, the operative idea with gin is...."
And....that's probably enough of the story. You get the idea.
Then we drank some. Wow. Light and refreshing for sure. Not very sweet. Not much juniper. Very little licorice. A burst of cucumber freshness with a citrus buzz that stays with you for a long time.
Bottom line: we now have a blended gin that is DELICIOUS. I'm not a gin guy, but I drank mine neat and loved it. Very refreshing. The new gin is being bottled now and it will be in the tasting room soon!
