You already know that the “best”
whiskey is just the whiskey you like to drink, the way you like to drink it. That doesn’t leave much room for snobs - which is the point. In full puffery, they'd rather eat their own young than let you enjoy a drink they wouldn’t order themselves.
But frankly, after you get a few miles on your whiskey glass, that kind of random snobbery is pretty irrelevant. Insecure (or ignorant) people often have aggressive opinions. And when you know what you’re doing - who cares what people think about your drink?
Yesterday, I was reminded of another important cornerstone of this group.
“With great whiskey comes great responsibility.”
It’s the idea that whiskey (like most powerful substances) can be a constructive or destructive force in your life - and you get to make that choice.
I’m not going to give many details on how I was reminded of that core value. The story isn’t mine to share. But to the MB I had the honor of meeting
in the barrel house…
I can’t imagine experiencing a loss like that.
