Downtown Austin, TX is 17 miles from us as the crow flies. At least 5 days a week, I catch the cityscape on the horizon as I climb the hill towards our whiskey hamlet. I rarely make it across the river these days, but it’s good that the city is there. A distant silhouette of hustles, drama and dreams. I’ve always been a sucker for juxtaposition. When you see two different things next to each other, it’s easier to understand (and appreciate) their unique qualities.

Kind of like a comparative tasting in whiskey. You want to better understand what you have in that glass? Pour a 2nd whiskey and compare it to the 1st. You’ll soon grasp what it is - by experiencing a simple contrast of what it isn’t.
While we’re on the topic of pairing, we have very good news.
MORE FOOD is coming to Crowded Barrel this Friday (TODAY) and Saturday. Last time we went experimental with a vendor offering up unique menu items. This time, we’re going fully classic with a food truck cooking up the burgers and tacos your drink demands.
It’s a husband and wife team, and they’re very excited to be on the property. As I type this, Roberto and Ignacia are getting prepped to fire up the grill. By the time you read this, they’ve already been filling our bellies with fresh, hot deliciousness.
The best part. Their experience in the food service industry is very impressive. And if you enjoy what they have to offer, they’re keen to grow their menu based on your preferences - and the kinds of pairings MB’s want to explore with their pour.
Life’s not so bad in the sticks.

Is your inner bastard Magnificent enough to salute?
Ceremonial hooded tunic, emblazoned with sigils of power upon the back and holy text over the heart. When the hood is fully activated, your invisibility spells become 27% more effective around security cameras. Just sayin'... Ancient heroes wore such tunics before questing, battling, feasting and drinking. More recently, such garb has been spotted amongst a clandestine group of unruly drunkards, rogues, and vagabonds known as "Magnificent Bastards".
