I’ve got good news for you... but also - I’m a tiny bit suspicious.
Remember that time we re-opened the Crowded Barrel distillery with all the approved regulations and safety precautions? It was a few months ago.
Operating under the same restrictions as alcohol serving restaurants seemed like a fine plan. There was a big face-masked sigh of relief - right up until all the Texas bars and tasting rooms were re-locked down overnight.
The good news is, THE WHISKEY TRIBE’S DISTILLERY IS OPEN once again. Here’s the details.
Crowded Barrel is back to normal hours!
Friday 11:00am - 8:00pm
Saturday 11:00am - 8:00pm
Sun 2:00pm - 7:00pm (no bottle pickups on Sunday)
No indoor seating. (Almost all of the seating is on the deck anyway.)
Masks. (We have some if you forget yours.)
Two people at a time can go inside to order.
Freedom to roam the 10 acres of property. (It’s nice.)
I really hope the progress is here to stay. Whiplash doesn’t pair well with whiskey.
90% raised glass.
8% relief.
2% side-eye.

In this video, Rex and Daniel talk about The Whiskey Tribe - a big, salty and ridiculous community of whisk(e)y loving MB's. They've raised a whiskey freak-flag...
Is your inner bastard Magnificent enough to salute?
This Crowded Barrel sigil has been imbued with an ability so unique, it will immediately silence any who dare to resist it’s power and Magnificence.
What is the ability, you ask? Brace yourself… It effortlessly sticks to most metals. I'm not even kidding. The finest whisk(e)y scientists and dram wizards have conferred and dubbed the arcane ability, “Magnetic.”
Now THAT’s how you change the game you Magnificent Bastard. BOOM!
Ian Piggott is our whiskey article curator - he gives us a glimpse of what’s happening with whiskey (and our whiskey brethren and sistren) around the world.
Originally trained as a chemist, Dr. Rachel Barrie has now been in the whisky industry for over 28 years. Starting her career as a researcher under the eye of legendary whisky figure Dr. Jim Swan, she then worked at Glenmorangie, Ardbeg, and Bowmore before moving to Brown Forman in 2017 to work as a master blender, charged with handling whisky creation across their then recently-acquired distilleries of GlenDronach, Benriach, and Glenglassaugh…
Bulleit Frontier Whiskey announced today that it's teaming up with American Forests, the oldest national nonprofit conservation organization in the United States and a leader in forestry innovation, with the goal to plant one million trees over the next five years. As a fundamental part of the recently announced Bulleit Frontier Fund, this initiative reaffirms the brand's long-standing commitment to a more sustainable future for the bartending and hospitality industry, and the communities surrounding it…
Recently, someone I know asked for recommendations for a gift for a “bourbon-loving friend” in the $100-$150 price range.
First, I’m happy to report for those who don’t know, that despite bourbon’s current popularity and consequent increase in prices generally, $150 is still a princely sum to spend on a bottle of bourbon. You can, of course, spend as much as you want. Instacart recently offered me (unsolicited) a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 20-year-old for $1,950.
